WAAM – wire arc additive manufacturing

WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) can be used to produce metal components using 3D printing, in which a wire electrode is melted layer by layer using an electric arc. The process is ideal for prototypes, small series or large components with complex shapes. We entered the development phase at an early stage and are in close contact with users and research institutions in order to gather results and carry out further development work.

Your advantages at a glance:

  • Production of complex components regardless of size
  • High productivity
  • High material availability
  • High-quality material: aluminium is sustainable, lightweight and has high strength
  • Comprehensive selection of alloys (recommendation: dimensional range from 1.00 to 1.60 mm)

Please feel free to download a data sheet in PDF format by clicking on the respective alloy.

Aluminium welding wire for precise seams.

Accurate, high-quality, durable.

Aluminium welding wire is crucial when it comes to stable, clean and durable welded joints. Whether MIG or TIG welding, brazing or metal spraying – our welding wire meets the highest requirements.

The aluminium welding wire is available in various diameters. We supply welding wire in the standard size range of 1.00 to 1.60 mm. We are happy to provide other sizes on request.

For TIG welding, we manufacture welding rods in consistent quality so that they can be processed evenly at any time and their quality is guaranteed. They are available in diameters of 2.00 mm, 2.40 mm and 3.20 mm and in lengths of 1 m.

Our commitment to the highest and consistent quality guarantees you a trouble-free process and the best results in your application. The continuous monitoring of our production by TÜV, DB and international shipping companies underpins this quality claim.

FAQ

What is the best way to store aluminium welding wire?

Protect the welding consumable from extreme temperature fluctuations. Protect the welding filler material from extremely high humidity. Allow the welding filler material to adapt to the ambient conditions at the workplace (24 hours before use). Also allow the base material to adapt to the ambient conditions at the workplace. Condensation, both on the base material and on the welding consumable, can lead to undesirable quality losses. Store Elisental welding wire in a safe and dry place. Always store and remove Elisental welding wire according to the FIFO principle.

Which aluminium alloys are available for welding wire?

The choice of materials, the designation system and the requirements for the materials are subject to DIN EN ISO 18273. This standard specifies the classification of wire electrodes, wire and rods for arc welding of aluminium and aluminium alloys. This serves to ensure uniform designation and comparability of aluminium welding wire (typical applications are mechanical engineering, vehicle and ship construction, aerospace, general aluminium construction).

How does welding wire for MIG and TIG welding differ?

Welding wire for MIG and TIG welding differs less in terms of material and more in terms of shape, feed and requirements for surface finish and dimensional accuracy. In MIG welding, the wire is both the electrode and the filler material and is fed automatically from a spool or drum. In addition, the diameters of 1.00, 1.20 and 1.60 mm are smaller than in the TIG process. In TIG welding, welding rods (standard length 1,000 mm) are fed by hand. The tungsten electrode is separate. The diameters of the rods are often in the range of 2.00 / 2.40 / 3.20 / 4.00 mm.

Why does the problem of pore formation occur?

The cause of pore formation is often the unwanted ingress of hydrogen into the protective gas atmosphere. You should therefore regularly check the condition of the protective gas pipes for porous or leaky areas. If cooling hoses and gas hoses have been mixed up, we recommend replacing all hoses, as it is not possible to dry and clean them completely.
